Glaciers are melting faster than ever. As our planet heats up, these ancient ice giants, our frozen reservoirs, are disappearing. The water cycle is becoming more unpredictable. Meltwater is changing its course and causing floods, landslides, and rising sea levels. Glacier holds nearly 70% of Earth’s freshwater [1], providing life-sustaining water for nearly 2 billion people [2]. But today, our glaciers are disappearing faster than ever.
Melting glaciers contribute significantly, with today’s sea level about 20 cm higher than in 1900 [3]. In 2023, glaciers lost over 600 gigatons of water—the highest in 50 years [4]. If we do nothing, the consequences will be devastating.
Glacier preservation is not just an environmental issue—it’s a survival strategy.
We must Reduce greenhouse gas emissions to slow glacial retreat, manage meltwater more sustainably and protect frozen water resources for future generations.
This World Water Day 2025, we unite under the theme “Glacier Preservation.”
Together, we must act to safeguard our glaciers, secure our water, and protect our planet.
It’s time to act now. Protecting glaciers means protecting life. Join the movement, spread awareness, and make a change.
